Selling My Nikon Gear
I want to sell my Nikon gear. It's a tough decision, but the fact is I just don't use the D70 much. The 20D is perfect for night photography - and I use my film cameras for most everything else. So -- I'm going to post this note here before going to eBay -- I think these prices are very reasonable. I'd really like to sell the whole package together, if possible. All items are in Ex+ condition - of course, you can view my images here - or on Flickr. The D70 is a wonderful camera - but made to be USED -- not sit in a bag for once in awhile use! Here's what I have and asking price: -D70 Body - $550 I'll sell the D70 and the Kit lens for $725 if someone is interested in going that route. I'll throw in the 3 batteries I have for it, too. That's it. I'm heading out on vacation tomorrow. The D70 is NOT going with me. NO digital -- all film. I accept Pay Pal -- I have a way to accept credit cards through Pay Pal, too - I think. Oh -- I'd be willing to sell the entire package for $2500. I still have the D70 body box -- I think I have the box for the 17-55mm -- not sure about the rest... Bob | 10:07 AM

Of course, I'd noticed you do a lot of night photography and you often choose the 20D. Do you find that the D70 is not capable when it comes to night photography? What makes the 20D your weapon of choice? comment by Jason at 10:07 AM on 03.04.05
[ link ] I answered Jason in a separate email -- but in case anyone else is wondering -- this is what I had to say: The D70 is very capable -- the problem I found with it is I get a purple glow up in the left corner when exposing longer than say 150 seconds or so -- maybe a shorter time when it's warmer out. The reason being -- Nikon leaves some electronics ON even during long exposures -- those electronics are close to the sensor -- that causes the purple glow -- The 20D doesn't have this issue. I like my night images from the D70 much better -- and maybe Nikon will fix the issue (not really an issue, since most people aren't crazy like me and shoot long exposures all the time!) -- maybe they won't. The 20D fits the bill for what I want to do right now -- I just don't feel right keeping BOTH kits -- so the Nikon goes! The D70 would be my choice for EVERY DAY shooting -- the images are smooth and wonderful -- I think better than the 20D -- but I need something that can do double duty -- make sense? Also -- the Nikkor glass is superior to Canon glass (IMHO) -- I've been shooting Nikon my whole life -- the only thing I like better is my Leica glass -- but that goes without saying... There you have it! James??? What the hell? Uh -- I might be interested in the 85mm :-) ... what's up with moving back to Nikon??? Man oh man ... although, I admit, I love my Nikon gear more than the Canon stuff --- but it's the night capabilites I really need... Oh well... Let me know if you want to trade :-) I'll be checking email... Well that's a shocker. I've actually had similar thoughts myself. No real brand loyalty, although Nikon products do seem to have certain feel to them. Night shooting is also going to very appearling for me shortly when my tripod and monopod come in next week. I almost bought that 12-24 for 950euro's a week ago, 750$ is about 566euro so you're selling it cheap, even when used. Anyway I am stiil trying to get a Hasselblad 501CM first but incase that's going above my head I'll return to have a look wheter the 12-24 is still around. I have no doubts about the way your handle your equipment, you even suggested people to take another girlfriend when she isn't respectfull to your kit:) (I am still considering that advice, now I hope she doesn't visit this site as well...) comment by quinten at 10:07 AM on 03.04.05
[ link ] Hey, Can I call dibs on it! I'm very interested (and also a friend of mine as well). Can you please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks. Cheers, wise move. no point in being sentimental over camera gear. it is just tools. apart from Leica M's of course... ;-) Damn the timing! I would SOOOO be all over this if I had the funds in place. Not quite there yet sadly. Leave a Comment
