I'm coaching T-Ball tonight. The weather looks iffy at best - it's sprinkling - and there's a threat of thunderstorms. I'm guessing we won't make the 4-6 year olds tough it out - we can always PLAY TWO another day...

I have to say I love this photograph. It was one of the rare times when I actually was very mindful of my surroundings. It happens about every other roll of film - I get one frame I KNOW will turn out exactly the way I saw it - there's never a doubt. This was that one frame. The light was dappled - the street (miraculously) was clear of street cars, autos, trucks and bikes -- and I looked across the street to see this wonderful woman - strolling along. In my mind I could clearly see the shadows playing on her side of the street - and I could see the halo of light around the head of the person just behind her. A rare moment when all things come together just the way you want - and a moment to remind me just how important it is to have my camera with me - ready for just such a moment...

The weekend is near - hang in there.

Six months old. Wow. Time does fly by so quickly. Six months ago at this time I was walking Baby Mae around showing her off to everyone. Time flies...

I've enjoyed watching her grow bigger and stronger each day. She's been our primary focus - there's really very little time for much else - raising a baby is one of the toughest jobs I've ever done.

Someone told me it gets easier with time; they were right - it does. I'm just now finally (slowly) adding things back into my routine - like working out - watching birds - working in the darkroom - reading - noodling ideas with Alison. The one thing I've learned over the last six months is it's OK to put things on hold - or to forget them completely - while attending to baby. That's been a hard lesson to learn - and one I wish I would have learned many years ago.

My mom made it to Toronto for the weekend. The only thing was all of us were ailing from something - including Baby Mae -- but we still had lots of fun. Mom found out that the Moose only come out at night - we actually have running water - and lumberjacks are nice guys after all!

Seriously -- it was great to have my mom visit - the time was way too short. Alison and I FINALLY got out on our own for the first time since Mae was born - we went to a gallery opening - out for a glass of wine - and then wanted to go home, we were just so tired - but it was wonderful to actually spend time alone together without worrying about a niggly baby. Thanks, Mom - we really appreciated the the time out - and the times you fed Mae Mae her late night bottle.

Yesterday morning I walked Crazy Girl to school and asked her what she thought of my mom:

me: did you like my mom?
crazy girl: yes, robert - very much.
me: would you mind if she visited again?
crazy girl: actually, robert - I'd really prefer that she move in with us.

I'd say that's a pretty good review...

Thanks again, mom - for making the trip - bringing my favorite cookies - and putting up with a house full of sick people!

There aren't many places like this left, and I suspect once Maggie passes on someone will try to turn it into a coffee shop or newsstand. I believe she told me she's 91 - but that's hard for me to believe because she was out there this winter during one of our biggest snowfalls - shoveling snow with great resolve. I'm guessing she'll be around several more years -- may even outlive me...

I made it to the club today. I'm so happy I did. I'm doggin' it this evening, but it was worth it. I honestly thought I'd die before I got there - a simple heart attack while riding my bike there. I made it, and I made it through a pretty rigorous weight routine - but I significantly cut back the weight - which helped a lot. Still - I'm sore - and tired - in a good way. It was just plain good to get back - I like the owners of my club and they all came over to ask about Mae. Nice touch.

I love this photo. I did nothing to it - other than clean up a little dust. I tried out some new film - Kodak's new and improved TMAX 400 -- I approve! Good stuff.

My mom will be visiting this time next week. I think we'll just toss Baby Mae over and head out for a wild night of drinking and dancing :-) Seriously - I'm looking forward to seeing her. I know her and Mae Mae have a lot of catching up to do...

The weekend is here - the full moon shows up Sunday morning around 9:30 - I may just have to poke my head out to see what's going on one of these nights...

Have a lunarlicious weekend!

She's growing so fast. I think she's cutting teeth because she's been so crabby this afternoon - and slobbering - a sure sign.

I took her for a very long walk this afternoon. I think we were out for close to 3 hours together. I walked her along Lake Ontario in the nice sunshine - and the gulls sang her lullabies - she fell asleep about 30 minutes into our walk. I was thinking how wonderful it was to spend time with Mae and how I wish I would have taken the time with my other daughters when they were young. I realize now just how much I missed - it makes me feel bad...

I'll be in the club tomorrow for sure. They have a locker ready for me - I've been waiting 6 months for one to become available. Now I can keep all my stuff there instead of lugging it back and forth on my bike. Cool. Wish me luck. If you see this same post day after day - you'll know I croaked while on the treadmill or lifting weights...
