The Setup

I was going to post a night shot I took when the storms rolled through this past weekend, but I thought I'd post this first. It's a simple b&w Polaroid image of John setting up my view camera. I really enjoyed just watching everything unfold - and listening to John's instructions as we went along. I don't know who was more excited -- but we had a great time figuring out a camera which came with NO instructions - none. With each image we made, we learned something new about the camera and process. I suspect that's the way it was in the 1840's - when photography was so new - early photographers like David Octavius Hill and Julia Margaret Cameron must have experienced the same sort of euphoria.

I start my next darkroom / print class tomorrow night. I can't wait - feeding my addiction all summer long...
