Last Sigh of Summer

While I was on the treadmill yesterday, I was thinking I've been off the corporate treadmill for about four months now. Still, it feels like it's only been four days. There are two sides to this feeling - on one side, I find myself still saying things like, "oh yeah, we've been working on that technology in the lab for the last year - it's pretty damn cool". I have to remind myself I no longer work for the grand daddy of all the tech companies. On the other side, I'm just happy to be away from the craziness and silliness that spins around in the corporate environment. I don't miss it one bit.

I'm just now getting the hang of sleeping in until 7:30 or 8 in the morning, and heading to the club to workout just about anytime I want. I like that, and I'm now in my fifth week of rebuilding. I'm feeling pretty good. If memory serves me right, the tough part begins now - I've just sort of scraped away the cobwebs, and set the alarms off in my lungs and heart that 'this guy means business' - I'm certain my mind will start playing games with me soon enough - trying to convince me to just stay home and watch Oprah - instead of putting all that unnecessary strain on my old and failing body. I'm not having any of it...

We picked up the stroller, picked out a new window for the baby's room, called the drywall / electrical dudes, made an appointment to tour the hospital, and toiled over the name we chose. So, I think things are on track. According to MY calendar, she/he will be here in just a smidgen over 7 weeks. (Yes, I'm getting nervous).

There's still about three weeks of summer left. The kids are back in school. Try to play a little hooky - get out there and do something for yourself - even if just for an hour or two. The work will still be waiting for you when you get back - it always is.
