Pretty much sums up my relaxing vacation.

I'm working on several things - writing and photography. I think I'm finally unwinding - at least a little. I've reached the point where I no longer know what day it is, nor do I really care. I have some thoughts regarding life north of the border, but I can't quite articulate them clearly - just yet. I'll noodle it all out and share some of my thoughts.

One thing is for sure, I don't miss the constant churn and burn of the business world. What I realize, even only after a short few months, is there's little time in a business person's life for anything other than - business. I never realized how all-consuming business responsibilities can be. I honestly believed that I was involved in other things - like photography, current events, friendships, etc. - and I'm sure I was, but looking back on it all now - the time devoted to anything non-business related was negligible. I don't have my mind wrapped completely around this thought, but I'm catching a glimpse of what I've been missing for many years.

I'm reading like a mad man these days. I'm looking at, and studying, zillions of images. I really wish I would have paid closer attention in art classes. I would have saved myself a lot of time - I'm only now grasping fundamental elements of art and how they relate to great photography. I suppose I've always intuitively known what makes a good photograph, but simply knowing how to ride a horse won't win you the Kentucky Derby. It's the finer elements I'm after now, and they are hard to suss out and embody in my own work. What's more, what's hard for me is the exercise of evaluating my work to date against those basic elements. It's obvious to me I have a very long way to go, but that's the fun of it all, right?

Anyway, more later. I need to mix up some chemicals to process some b&w film I shot while on vacation. Enjoy your week!
