Home Sweet Home

I thought I'd pop up my Monday shot a little early. The weather hasn't cooperated with me this weekend - at least when it comes to great light for photos. The good thing is I have at least a few other passions besides photograpy - one of them is birds, and yesterday was a GREAT day for seeing some fine species. I took Lainey for a nice walk through the woods and remembered to bring my binoculars - I'm glad I did. I won't list all the birds I saw - but two were key notables for me: the Brown Creeper - and the Cape May Warbler. I've been looking for a Brown Creeper now for two seasons -- and I have to admit, had it not been for Lainey, I would have NEVER seen the bird. Lainey was pretty animated yesterday - rooting around in places she normally doesn't frequent. She had her big nose in something - and I happened to look just a little beyond her - and spotted the Brown Creeper.

What's cool about Creepers is they start at the BOTTOM of a tree - work their way up - looking for bugs -- and then flitter to the BOTTOM of the next tree -- that's their thing -- dunno why - just is. As for the Cape May -- they are simply stunning in the spring - when in full breeding plumage - but they aren't half bad in the fall - one of my favorite warblers.

The sun is trying to peek out today - I think the gate is down at one of my favorite farms -- maybe I'll load up the camera with some black and white - and take a few square photos...

Have a nice week. I'll be out next weekend with John to take some night shots -- if the weather cooperates.
