Lunarscape

I just had to go out tonight to see the eclipse. I'm so happy I did. The clouds cleared enough for me to see pretty much everything from start to finish. While I watched, I took a few very LONG exposures with my D70. This one was the very last one of the evening - about a 15 minute exposure. What you see in the upper left portion of the frame is light from the moon. At this point, the moon was about 30% out of eclipse.

NOTE: Look in the 'READ MORE' section below for exposure details.

I had to climb down a pretty steep sand wall to get to the beach, and I was worried the water level would rise while I was there. I could see the high water mark - above my head, but I had to have this shot. I warmed it up a bit during processing - probably more than I should have, but I like to think this is the way the moon's surface looked tonight...

While I was busy capturing the lunarscape, my friend John was capturing the RED moon -- check out his great photo -- it's my Fav of the Day -- great job, John!
