Attack of the Gulls
Not long ago, I sent my nephew a camera. I've been known to do this sort of thing because I love seeing what great artists do with various tools of the trade - especially tools I just couldn't get the hang of! There have been times when I've sent off a camera to an artist, then, viewed the images they took using the camera - and then finding myself wishing like hell ** I ** would have been the one who took the image -- it maddens me! -- but at the same time, it thrills me to no end, knowing I've helped in some small way. This image represents one of those situations where the image is just outstanding -- and I wish ** I ** were the one who took the image - but I'm not - my nephew, Lorne, took the image. An outstanding image at that. Most of you know that I just don't take photos of birds. I LOVE birds - almost as much as I love dogs and images -- on any given day, it's a toss-up! So -- it's wonderful for me to see images such as this one. These are Laughing Gulls in winter plumage - drifting upon the ocean's breeze. Beautiful, huh? Special thanks to my great friend, and best ornithologist in the universe, Jules. Julie conducts very important bird migration research at the RRBO. I'm fortunate enough to have been in the field with her - I've learned so much - she is a shining star. Jules helped me make the quick ID of these wonderful birds. I SUCK at identifying gulls -- I'm more a Red-Breasted Nuthatch, Great Blue Heron, and Turkey Vulture kind of guy... There is NO Fav of the Day today -- because THIS image IS my Favorite of the Day! Great job, Lorne! Keep up the great work! |
